FAQ
Why Ukraine? Why Now?
Blankets of Hope understands that people experience homelessness for many reasons, including war.
As of this writing, 13 million refugees from Ukraine have left their homes in the biggest movement of people experiencing homelessness in Europe since WWII.
Why Letters of Hope?
A few simple words can make a big difference.
Ukrainian refugees deserve to know that, in their time of greatest doubt, there are countless people across the world thinking of them and supporting them in their quest for a better tomorrow.
What should my letter say?
We encourage to you practice empathy.
Ask yourself, "What letter would I want to receive if I was in this situation?"
If you get stuck, here's an example you can use for inspiration:
"Dear Friend,
I may never fully understand what you're going through right now, but I want you to know that there are people out there thinking about you.
I want you to know that people care. And most importantly, I believe in you!
With Kindness, Your Name"
Where should I mail my letter?
You can mail them to the BOH office at: Blankets of Hope 67 35th St Suite C400 Brooklyn, NY 11232
Is there a deadline to mail my letter in?
We'll only be accepting letters until the end of May.
In June, the BOH team will travel to the Ukrainian border to hand-deliver the letters, along with other necessities, to Ukrainian refugees.
What language can I write my letter in?
You can write your letter in whatever language you please. With that said, many of the people receiving the letters will only know the Ukrainian language.
Feel free to use a tool like Google Translate to show the people receiving your letter just how much you care.
"Slava Ukraini" (Glory to Ukraine) is a phrase that Ukrainians are using to encourage each other, so if you want to include at least a little Ukrainian in your letter, that could be a great option.
How will the letters reach the Ukrainian refugees?
The BOH team will travel to western Ukraine to hand-deliver the letters to refugees.
They will be affixed to toys, blankets, and other necessities.
